Last-Minute Gift Ideas from Your Kitchen: Homemade Microwave Fudge
It’s that time of year when the holiday hustle is in full swing, and you realize you’ve forgotten a gift for a teacher, neighbor, or friend. Don’t panic—the solution might already be in your kitchen! One of the easiest (and most appreciated) gifts you can give is homemade fudge, especially when it’s quick, simple, and absolutely delicious.
Microwave Fudge Recipe
Today, I’m sharing my favorite recipe for Microwave Fudge that comes together in just two minutes. Pair it with a beautiful, thrifted serving piece or bowl for a thoughtful, one-of-a-kind present that shows you care.
Ingredients:
- 4c powdered sugar, sifted to eliminate lumps
- 1/2 c cocoa
- 1/4 c milk
- 1 stick butter, I use real butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- Optional: chopped nuts, or crushed candy canes for topping
Instructions:
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the powdered sugar, cocoa, salt, milk and vanilla.
- Slice softened butter over the top in center of dish.
- Microwave on high for 2 minutes.
- Pour the fudge mixture into a lined 8×8-inch pan or thrifted container and spread evenly. Sprinkle with your choice of toppings, if desired.
- Let the fudge cool in refrigerator completely, about one hour
- Cut it into squares.
NOTE: use real butter for ultimate taste. Don’t use soft margarine, as the fudge will not harden.
That’s it! You’ve made a rich, creamy treat that will impress everyone on your list.
Presentation Makes the Gift
To elevate your homemade fudge into a truly special gift, consider pairing it with a unique serving piece. Thrift stores and second-hand shops are treasure troves for beautiful bowls, trays, and serving dishes that can add charm and personality to your present. Look for:
- Vintage plates or platters with holiday motifs
- Crystal or glass bowls for a touch of elegance
- Rustic wooden trays for a farmhouse feel
- Colorful ceramic dishes to match the recipient’s style
When selecting your serving piece, keep in mind that the fudge will be hot. Wrap the serving piece with clear cellophane, add a festive bow, and attach a handwritten note with the fudge recipe. This small, thoughtful gesture turns a simple treat into a memorable keepsake.
Why Homemade Gifts Matter
In a world of instant purchases, taking the time to make something by hand shows an extra level of care and thoughtfulness. Your recipients will feel special knowing you put effort into their gift, and the fudge is sure to bring smiles (and maybe a few requests for the recipe!).
So, the next time you’re short on time but still want to spread some holiday cheer, whip up a batch of this easy Microwave Fudge and pair it with a unique serving piece. You’ll have a gift that’s as delightful to give as it is to receive!
